Antique Jewellery Shop Counter
with lock up Chest of Drawers
$16,000
Note: It is actually a warmer brown oak colour than what these amateur photos depict.
This Antique Jewel Cabinet / Antique Coin collection Cabinet / Antique Shop Counter with 156 lockable drawers has been purpose built for the display and storage of jewellery or a collection of small items. It is a genuine antique, likely c1920 – 1940, purchased from the late Graham See, Principal of Brisbane Antiques, Clayfield, Brisbane.
It is believed to be a purpose built American Jewellery Shop Counter. It has been traditionally crafted from beautifully figured American Oak timber grain.
This antique counter / chest of drawers is ideal for the locked storage and display of any collection including: jewellery, gems, rocks, coins, keys, stamps, badges, philately, insects, shells, beads, marbles, seeds, paper, matches, buttons, lego and small and miniature sized collectibles.
It is in immaculate condition as it has been recently, fully restored by GN Olsson Mastercraftsmen www.gnolsson.com. The counter / chest of drawers is traditionally, hand French polished in pure shellac, and is actually a warmer brown oak colour than what these amateur photos depict. The internal finish of the drawers is a low gloss black with shellac to seal them. This is a great conservation finish for both the counter and the items to be housed within it.
Specifications: 156 Drawers with 154 being lockable, with an old style key. The lowest 2 cannot be locked, as is, due to a design error by original maker.
The overall height is 920mm, length is 1250mm and depth is 640mm.
Collection Drawers have an external width of 520mm and internal measurements of 483mm wide x 420mm deep by 16mm high.
15 drawers have their original restored compartmentalised divisions currently in them.
The number of divisions varies from 3 to 156 per drawer. So the tiniest of the compartments are 15mm x 64mm.
All other internal divisions from the drawers have been retained, though are kept separately from the counter / chest of drawers, as they are not restored, in case the new owner does not require them. The remaining unrestored, original internal divisions can be restored (price on asking) in the same manner and reinserted, if desired. Alternatively, we can just provide the remaining unrestored, original internal divisions to the buyer.
They may then be restored and included in the counter chest of drawers in the future, if ever desired. This piece would cost considerably more to make new.
The asking price is $16000.
Only serious buyers should make contact.
This piece may be viewed by appointment between 8am and 4.30pm Mon to Fri at GN Olsson Mastercraftsmen 393 Narangba Rd, Kurwongbah, Qld, Australia.
